  • Heya, long time dev here.

If you’re not expecting millions of rows, you could just use the country code directly in the user table and not use a foreign key/table at all. Just an idea.

However, if you want the country table, i would find this list in a csv format (or copy paste into goog sheets or such and massage it) and then use a tool or write a quick script to ingest it into the db. If you’re doing that you should design the country table to have id, code, name. It can be used for populating dropdowns or autocomplete or such too.

Over-engineering is a thing; keep it simple. If you’re doing this mainly as an exercise to learn, over-engineering can be ok - just understand that it doesn’t HAVE to be done any particular way, and there is no “right” way. Design is subjective and varies based on the needs of your software.

  • Oh I hear ya on the whole dad medical stuff and the sketchy screwed up stuff going on there.

But you lost me when you jump from rehab (on farms) for addicts and adhd to farms for neurodivergents.

or happen to be a bit different from most just need to work on a farm for a while

This is where a leap happens that I’m not following and I believe is baseless, but I’m trying to uncover that.

If it’s simply based on his desire to try that treatment for some conditions and assuming he will suggest it for this one, I personally don’t think that’s a fair leap, but respect your desire to think it is. If there is more to back up this theory, I’d like to hear it.

  • The article specifically states that the reason for getting this info is to link with other datasets to look for causes for the increase in autism cases.

“Linking CMS claims data with a secure real-world NIH data platform, fully compliant with privacy and security laws, will unlock landmark research into the complex factors that drive autism and chronic disease — ultimately delivering superior health outcomes to the Americans we serve,” he said.

It makes no mention of farms for neurodivergent people. That’s some nonsense.

  • A lot of crypto isn’t blind luck any more than the stock market is. I’ve made smart, strategic, well researched crypto investments over 13 years and it’s been quite successful. Bitcoin, Ethereum, Solana, Sui…

If you keep up with the engineering and filter all the noise, it’s historically been really smart investment / store of value.

That said if you’re just following influencers and aren’t an engineer or have a keen eye for finding truly knowledgable people - yeah it’s risky af!!
