For this edition of Saturday Anime Night, we are beginning the classic Gainax series Nadia: The Secret of Blue Water (1990), covering episodes 19 through 24. Join a rag-tag group of unlikely heroes on a steampunk adventure to find and save the lost city of Atlantis from an diabolical organization determined to rule the world. Stargate (1994) and Atlantis: The Lost Empire (2001) pretty much ripped this series off. Oh yeah, and did I mention that Hayao Miyazaki wrote it, and Hideaki Anno was involved, too?

After that is Lost in Starlight (2025), which Netflix advertises as their first-ever original Korean animated film. It centers on a pair of lovers in the near future who are torn apart when the lady, an astronaut, is selected to go on a mission to Mars. Will interplanetary travel keep our couple apart, or will they still be together? I guess we’ll find out. This is one of the few animated films directed by a woman, Han Ji-won, and is her most popular and best-reviewed work to date. A lot of comparisons to Makoto Shinkai’s work here, such as Your Name (2016) and Weathering with You (2019). Good reviews for this, so let’s give it a whirl.

We’ll start at 8PM EST on Blorptube, right here:

Be there, comrades!
