My daughter (6) is aggressive abusive to her shoes. Trainers seem to last about 6 weeks before the toe is destroyed and the sole delaminating. Sketchers, or boots seem to last a bit longer, maybe 2-3 months before being annihilated.
Has anyone found a brand or range that actually holds up to the abuses a small child can throw at them? I’ve reach the point where I’m eyeing up composite toed builders trainers. That seems overkill however, and she doesn’t like the designs available in her size (UK size 2/3).
Has anyone else ran into this problem and found a viable solution? It’s getting both expensive and embarrassing. Oh, and before it’s suggested, my wife has vetoed the boots from a suit of armour.
She’s extremely rough and tumble. It’s mostly crawling around and climbing/kicking stones or bricks etc. She basically ablates them on whatever is in her way. There’s nothing too dangerous. It just all seems to be focused on the toes of her shoes.
I used to sell shoes for about a decade and I can tell you kid’s shoes are 99% of the time lower quality because they are expected to be outgrown, so any regular trainers or runners even in higher end brands like saucony, asics, new balance are not going to last long if she’s kicking bricks and such lol.
The composite toe shoes could work but I would still be worried about them hurting themselves from kicking stuff they probably shouldn’t be kicking
She’s fairly good about not injuring herself. Toes and knees feel pain, so she protects them. Unfortunately, shoes don’t, so they are fair game to scrape and tear as convenient. She tends not to kick things explicitly. It’s more she does things like trailing her toe up the small wall she’s climbing, so she doesn’t accidentally kick it.
Shoe quality wise, I’ve definitely noticed they are nowhere near as robust as adult shoes. The work shoes started out as a complete joke idea. Unfortunately I’ve still to come up with anything better.
Looks like I need to find the girliest little safety trainers I can find.
Fair enough, kids will be kids. Ya the only other thing I could see other than getting her safety shoes is maybe putting her in a rock climbing class or soccer to get her energy out haha, all the best to you
Rock climbing is on the list. She’s almost old enough to go to the local walls. She already does multiple sports and activities, they don’t wear her out. She can walk most adults into the ground, and still have energy to spare. Think energizer bunny, but with the fuel cell from the Terminator. If we figure out a way to reliably get the energy out, she will have a new hobby, whether she wants it or not! 🤣
Hm kid hiking boots/shoes? Protect the feet so she’s not kicking stones with cheap shoes that’ll bust her toes.
We tried some little walking boots. Their construction was less practical, and more stylistic. We need to find a brand that will actually hold up better than a normal shoe.
