UN experts said in a report on Tuesday that Israel committed the crime against humanity of “extermination” by killing civilians sheltering in schools and religious sites in Gaza, part of a “concerted campaign to obliterate Palestinian life.”
The United Nations Independent International Commission of Inquiry on the Occupied Palestinian Territory, including East Jerusalem, and Israel was due to present the report to the Geneva-based UN Human Rights Council on June 17.
“We are seeing more and more indications that Israel is carrying out a concerted campaign to obliterate Palestinian life in Gaza,” former UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Navi Pillay, who chairs the commission, said in a statement.
The genocide of Rohingya people is ongoing and has a similar number of dead and displaced as the genocide in Gaza
Good point - I hadn’t remembered what was going on in Myanmar since the Military Dictatorship took over.
That said, 6 months ago the estimated deaths in Gaza were already around 200,000 according to a study published in the Lancet medical journal (which differs a lot from the 50k “official” count, because the latter number has barely change in over a year after Israel destroyed most hospitals in Gaza were the dead were counted), which is well beyond the 43k upper estimation of deaths in the Rohingya Genocide in that Wikipedia entry, so “similar” is maybe not the right word.
My point still stands that Israel is on track to turn go beyond a “mere” Genocide and commit a modern version of the Holocaust, were the majority of the Gazan population will be killed (certainly the wish of over 80% of the Israeli population is all of them killed or expelled), and that population was over 2 million people at the start of the Genocide. This would make Germany one of the few, if not the only nation, which committed or actively supported TWO Holocausts
