If you’re like me, it’s a great opportunity to ruin the family picnic with politics and pressuring maga relatives. Likely won’t change any minds, but maybe I’ll luck out and not get invited next year.

Yeah, patriotism always felt fucking weird as a kid growing up in the 90s.

I’ve been pretty ashamed of my country for a long time.

9/11 ruined it for me, specifically the “proud to be an American”, flag on cars garbage—while we passed the Patriot act and started more wars.

Call it what it is: nationalism. I’ve been weirded out by it since I stopped saying the pledge of allegiance in elementary school.

Fun fact: the pledge was created as part of a campaign to sell more flags to schools.

How I celebrate a 3 day weekend: I make it a 4 day weekend lol

Some people use their vacation time to take a week off at once, I use it to make every 3 day weekend a 4 day weekend lol

I salute you. I love the fact that everyone takes off the day before or after a holiday and the entire time between Christmas and New Year. No one is around so I get to sign in, turn on my script to keep my computer from sleeping, and walk away.

I did check the backups this morning. I’m sure some jackass wants to deploy tonight since it’s a 3 day weekend. Not my problem and backups are good as of 10am. If they call me out over a holiday weekend my contract is very specific about the on call fee, holiday pay, and minimum hours. So today I’m just hanging out and prepping for Saturday’s cook out.

I work a 4/3, my normal weekends are long weekends. Stat holiday Mondays make for an extra long weekend. Canada Day was a Tuesday this year so I took Monday off and got a 5 day weekend in exchange for 1 vacation day.
