It seems like the real difference might be how many people are on your contact list. When I only had a handful of friends and family I would also be informal. However at one point I synched a company directory and since then have been much more complete with my contact data so they are easier to find

  • I’m was going to say …. I’ve mostly given up on Prime Video but tried to watch it last night and it was intolerable

Netflix too. Even trying to use it according to their rules, they decided my home network is not my home network. I have to keep using the extra authentication, and they are not willing or able to fix it. I’m really just holding out for Wednesday, but maybe I should cancel, and resubscribe in December when I can watch the whole season

I’m not currently frustrated with Disney+, but am also not watching anything there.

I generally try to stay at 2-3 subscriptions but sometimes none of them are worth ot

  • The focus on immigrants is insufficient. The problem is the circumvention of law, due process, civil rights. The problem is circumventing the law to do so much harm, whether it’s to dark skinned people, the general instillation of terror, fraud and corruption, national leadership holding themselves above the law, enforcement agencies in contempt of the law, harm to our economy, harm to our neighbors and friends who relied on us, harm to our future and our environment, harm effective running of government functions. There’s just too many reasons to be offended beyond mistreatment of our fellow humans and the common thread is violation of the law and constitution.

  • Jesus Christ, this conversation is scary. I wish y’all good luck that none of these precautions are necessary.

As someone in a blue state where governance is sane, I’m “raw dogging it” (effing offensive slang term but now I’ve used it once in my life and can rest easy) and bringing my kids (teens). M also going to the local demonstration rather than go into the city for a big one - to some extent it’s a numbers game: ICE can’t raid them all and police aren’t legally allowed to help them

…. And hopefully my optimism is well founded

Edit: huge success! Entirely peaceful. While a few cops drove by, there was no police presence. Thousands of people of all ages lining both sides of main st, and three sides of our town common. Constant honking from supporters driving by. It was very inspirational. I’m proud of my fellow citizens and hope our voice for restoring sanity and democracy is heard.

For those pessimists,a bit more context why I was so optimistic…… a few years back, our mayor and police were participants in a local BLM rally. Also a big part of local outrage against fascism was a city counselor getting assaulted and arrested for videoing an illegal raid on one of his constituents.

  • Cars are a reasonable solution for some situations, and there’s no reason it can’t be a hobby. If we design cities for cars, invest in car infrastructure, and don’t build or invest in other transportation infrastructure, we get what we paid for.

A better perspective is we should design cities so you don’t need a personal car, design cities so a personal car is more expensive and less convenient.

Instead of worrying that people choose personal cars too often, let’s all worry that our cities don’t always offer any other option

  • Do you really condone murder over free speech or minor vandalism or self defense? Do you support a police force that skips due process and goes right to murder? Do you support a police force instilling terror to “keep people in line”?Given the situation in LA, and so many more examples of protesting, do you really think they won’t be instigating or faking escalation to murder people.

That’s not a law and order speech, that’s a “meal team 6”, “itchy trigger finger”, looking for an excuse to murder someone. In any sane society, he would have been immediately relieved of duty, and facing charges.

And yes, any murders committed by that police force during upcoming protests should be considered premeditated, and premeditated murder not be protected by qualified immunity
