It’s real easy. They’re gonna have a different nurse ask you every 15 minutes for your insurance information, and if that fails, they’ll assign a social worker to sit with you and begin applying for medicaid benefits on your behalf. They will slowwww your treatment because they know you aren’t indigent and this point, you’re either crazy or playing them. They may call for a transfer to a psychiatric hospital, they’ll certainly be making moves at this point you want to avoid. They know how to get their money. Charity care isn’t just a pot you can freely dip in or we’d all be doing it.

But I like the spirit of the thing.

  • For us it begins at the grassroots. We don’t have billionaires willing to create a national organization. So form small liberal groups, and then network them together. I’m serious. I started a group for queer men last year, now I am taking over the entire progressive scene in my state by creating an overarching organization that connects over a dozen key players (ACLU, Prides, migrant and trans organizations). If we did this in every area, and then networked THEM… well shit we’d have a base of power and even fundraising capabilities. IDK what else to do.

  • The periodic table is predictive. From a few elements, the rest could be projected and expected, like the Higgs-Boson. The table makes no predictions for things we cannot measure and are in fact theoretical, like dark matter which lacks any empirical evidence. Would be awesome if it did because then it wouldn’t be theoretical anymore.

  • I went to a gay camp earlier this year and a couple of the RVs had starlinks. They don’t care and they don’t think their dollars matter.

In fact I had a whole chat with my boss today about Chick Filet, he asked if I was boycotting (and said his gay daughter is too). He then launched into this spiel about how you’re always supporting evil somehow so it doesn’t matter.

I’m like, yeah but not one penny of my money goes to them, and that’s all I can care about.

  • For normal people yes, for people who lack emotional regulation, “I am sad” can be an identity because you might get stuck in it for years at a time. Decades.

I think the author here is speaking to those people more than just your average joe who could care less about the distinction between state and characteristic because they understand the difference already.
