  • Long story short, profit.

The not so short versio is that each manufacturer along the supply chain decides for how long they want to provide updates, the following manufacturer can’t provide updates that the previous manufacturer doesn’t. And so it goes until you get a phone that has 3 years of software updates and 5 years of security updates and that’s it.

For example, you might buy a phone from google, they buy electronic parts from maybe Qualcomm and a few others. Say Qualcomm decides that it won’t be profitable to provide driver updates to the SoC past 7 years and critical security updates past 10 years. At this point even if Googke really wanted to, they can’t provide anything past that as they would not be able to update the Qualcomm driver. But google has otger providers with maybe shorter support windows, abd they have their own costs and updates to make. So Google decideds that for them it won’t be profitable to provide support past 5 years and security updates past 7 years. So now you get a phone which will be unsupported after 7 years, and here comes the big difference between phones and most computers. Phones have a locked bootloader and usually a custom SoC. Locjed Bootloader means that you can’t just install another OS that might still provide some support, and the custom SoC means that any driver support will have to be only for this specific device.

So with an old laptop you might have a custom motherboard, but the cpu, gpu, ram, wifi, sound, etc will all be off the shelf, so if some linux developer makes some sort of driver support for your wifi card, it will also apply to all other laptops with that wifi card, but for a phone this won’t work, let alone even be viable since the bootloader is locked.

Simply put, no right to own and profit chasing means that no one really cares if your phone is a security and usability nightmare after a few years.

  • I don’t really see what the difference is…

Even if you take the information that each side is giving on their own actions, it is pretty clear that Iran is not doing anything special.

And even if you take Israel’s side and say that the Israeli attack was justified as self defense against Iran nuking them, it would still be legitimate that Iran would strike back, and of course they would aim at big cities since plenty of IDF camps are in those big cities…

  • Most of them, but by far makeup.

If someone enjoys it and wants to, I don’t judge.

But I seriously never saw a person who looks better with makeup. Even light makeup ( which can look good) still looks worse than just natural.

Also there is this vicious cycle where heavy makeup users have worse skin and more pimples so they feel pressure to but heavier makeup, which in turn worsens the skin condition.

People, be happy, love yourself, you are pretty for who you are.

  • Idk, I think we should have sympathy for people being kill because of war at all times.

I don’t know who lived in the place that was bombed there, but unless I have reason to believe that that person is somehow responsible for the genocide, why would I hate them?

Israel is obviously filled with genocidal people, and those who support genocide are not going to get my sympathy, but there are those who are actively fighting it even. So I do feel sympathy for innocent people dying because of genocidal governments and their need to bomb every living thing around them.

  • I don’t know your story or your financial situation.

It is a sad reality that in the US there are literally millions who probably can’t leave even if it was life or death. But i feel like your comment directs your anger and pain towards those who are in at the very least a similar boat to you. Considering that she is an academic, I doubt she is rich, probably middle class at best. The billionaires stole from you, she is probably a victim of this system just like you.

She is lucky to be able to leave, but realistically she is probably just putting a much bigger weight on this issue than most and I would guess that she sees this as a life or death situation. I think that in a life or death situation, most people can afford to leave to Canada, this isn’t that crazy nor does it cost a fortune. It is true that not all people can, but I’m pretty sure that by far most can.

Pretty simple. Currently not all nations have nukes, out of those who have, a few have enough to completely destroy a rival nation. This means that the nations with the big nuke stocks are the ones calling the shots as to who should have nukes and how much. Iran being mostly against the US is not allowed nukes, Israel being mostly a US ally is allowed nukes.

    This is the unpolitical explanation.
