The big caveat is that the BIOS must allow it, and most released versions do not.

Technology Connections recently posted a detailed video about dehumidifiers that’s worth watching. But a key takeaway is that on an AC, the hot side is outside (making the inside cool), while in a dehumidifier they are directly next to each other (condensing the moisture).

Without looking into the specifics, my guess is that it’s not routing the cold air over the hot side to keep things inside the same temperature.

Related, many small(-ish) bars have a stage for live music on Friday/Saturday. There may not be enough seating for those nights, and there’s little/no standing room, so people randomly share tables. From there, you strike up conversation with other fans.

Find the small places where they advertise the bands by name, and make sure they aren’t just cover bands. Irish pubs have been lucky for me, but there’s another place near me that regularly has jam bands.

It says “No kings”. We’re allowed to have one.

That’s part of the strategy. First, go after the small project that can’t defend itself. Use that to set a precedent that is harder for the bigger targets to overturn.

I would expect the bigger players to get themselves involved in the defense for exactly that reason.

Of note, Kirsten Gillibrand was on the ballot for a different seat. My guess is that it means something was calling the wrong database table (Senate candidates instead of presidential candidates). This could’ve been while casting votes, counting votes, or reporting results.

It doesn’t make it any less concerning for our democracy, but it’s a lot easier to explain how it happened.

Serious question: why would more visibility keep it safer? Israel continues to commit far worse crimes against humanity, very openly, on a daily basis. Why would this be any different?

You are comparing it to a hash, following some extra rules on what the data could be. You have exactly the length of hash before you can reliably count on duplicates (and collisions happen much sooner). In torrent v1, this is SHA-1, which has a 160-bit (or 20 byte) hash. Which means for every single additional random bit, you have doubled the number of possible matches.

If your torrent has an uncommonly small chunk size of 256KiB, that’s 261,144 bytes. Minus the 20 from above, and you have a likely 256^261124 chunks that match your hash. That’s a number so large that Google calls it infinity. It would take you forever just to generate these chunks by brute force, since each would need to be created, then hashed, then the results stored somewhere. Many years ago, I remember someone doing this on CRC32 (32 bits/4 bytes) and 6 byte files. It took all night, and produced dozens of hash-matching files. You’re talking many orders of magnitude bigger.

But then what? You’d still need to apply the other rules on what the data could be. Rules that are probably more CPU-intensive than the hash algorithm.

The one trick that AI might be able to use to save the day is that it may contain in its corpus the original file. In effect, that would make the AI an unlikely seeder.
