  • Ill do you one extra even. One of our customers, a lawfirm, has asked we remove AI from their environment over privacy concerns. We, as their IT, are still trying to push and sell licenses to our other customers and even use it ourselves.

All against the wishes of the actual workers themselves in my company. The execs and sales team is pushing it so hard and ignoring that a literal law firm is super against it.

Surely this will turn out well. I let that customer know that we’re still pushing AI, and management is very pro AI still. It might be a good idea to look for a different IT provider if that goes against your values.

  • There’s definitely nuance though, albeit it always comes down to self control anyway.

I choose when i engage with lemmy. I limit what i see on lemmy. I feel more in control and therefore more thoughtful of how i social the media.

I keep my phone on silent. I hide all notifications besides texts from loved ones/work. You have to call me twice in a row to make it make a noise.

Choosing when and how you engage with your phone vs letting the phone and companys choose when they engage with you definitely helps prevent a lot of the downsides of it all. (Also less algorithm stuff. More manually searching for what i want to spend my time doing)

Only social accounts i have are lemmy / discord with direct friends i know. Its helped me a lot.

  • The fun trick with this is when the HoA defends themselves there’s usually a clause that allows them to charge folks within the HoA to pay for legal bills, aka you.

So you have to pay for the HoA to defend itself against you filing a lawsuit about how it is violating your laws. While also paying for your side of the lawsuit too.

(This is of course all depending on the nature of what youre filing for and specifically who it is against, but it’s just another example of why HoA’s are useless profit generation for those that run the HoA. Specially if its a mega-corp owned HoA like Sentry)
