Trump’s fascism isn’t just a local threat, it’s a global one, so we are all affected and we all need to fight against this.

“I would give anything to have an assistant who understood my voice and context and my intent well enough “
Translation: I don’t want to put in the effort to make myself clear to others, I want to babble along being dependent on a machine to communicate with others and while we are at it, I want the machine to consider all my wishes and implement the rhetoric to manipulate everyone listening to my machine to do my bidding.
Computer: I have one workstation and three laptops, so I guess I don’t really need a backup plan there.
Washing machine: I’d just use a laundromat.
Phone: I have three phones, so I’m covered.
Toaster: No problem — I’ll just eat untoasted bread.
Dishwasher: I wouldn’t like it, but I’d just wash the dishes myself.
Stove: I could eat salads or order takeout.
Electric mixer / hand blender: order a new one and until it arrives I won’t cook stuff that requires one of those
Printer: I’d print at work.
Vacuum cleaner: I’d use a broom instead.
Electric kettle: I’d boil water on the stove using a pot.
Heating: lucky me, it’s summer, tell the landlord to take care of it (they need to, by law)
Fridge: fuck me, it’s summer, order a new one
As for other devices: no microwave (I prefer real cooking to reheating), no TV (haven’t had one for 30 years), no dryer (I just hang clothes on the hamper), no coffee machine (I do pour-over instead), no AC as this is unusual here

Almost every religion has some kind of missionary element, trying to spread or enforce its beliefs (and selling it as eternal truth). That’s basically how they survive and grow.
That’s the core problem for me: the need to convince others to believe the same thing. It turns personal belief into pressure, and that’s exactly why I don’t trust any religion.
Yes, it’s not all religions, but … (you should know how to finish the sentence)
Das schreit geradezu nach einer Hack-Mandel-Füllung.
What I tried so far:
It’s not perfect, but it helps not feeling so damn helpless.
Even if it was the fastest standard with the latest hardware, a shit load of memory, the best camera imaginable … I wouldn’t want anything in my house with the name “Trump” on it, even if it were a gift.
It’s important to say this again and again to make sure everyone knows and no-one forgets.
Is this the best article I’ve read about AI? No.
But some of the comments are problematic.
Rather than engaging with the actual issues raised, they focus solely on flaws in the article itself, completely ignoring the broader concerns it tries to address.
I also don’t live anywhere near the US. Do I feel like I can’t do anything? Not at all.
I deleted my PayPal account
I deleted my Amazon account
I deleted my Instagram account
I switched to a Linux distribution which is mainly developed in Europe
I deleted my Google account
I deleted my WhatsApp account
I try to boycott as many American products (physical or digital) as possible.
That’s surely one reason. Another would be collecting data to create profiles to make advertising and political manipulation even more effective.
Easy soliton: delete your Amazon account, not just prime.
Auf jeden Fall wird es ab jetzt normal werden. Vermutlich bis zum Zusammenbruch des Golfstroms, dann wird es kälter.
That’s what a lot of Germans did back then: ignoring what’s going on.
I agree, the internet started dying before AI, not necessarily because of repetition or predictability, at least from my pov. It’s the political manipulation, the greed for getting and selling data and the advertising that is killing the internet.
AI is just the last blow to something that is already gasping for air.
Sounds like what women are going through.
At least women in the US are basically back to those dark places.
‘“Some jobs will be obsolete, but many jobs are going to be created … Whenever companies are more productive, they hire more people,” Huang said’
That’s exactly what they said when automation was the next big thing.
Yes, new jobs were created — but they were more monotonous, less fulfilling, heavily monitored, and more disconnected from the final product. Which made them, for many, less meaningful.
So, Mr. Huang and Mr. Altman: Tell me more about this brave new world you’re (altruistically) building for us.
FFS, why does Trump look like he’s about to suck cock in every damn picture?
