Hanrahan@slrpnk.netto Australia@aussie.zone•[Opinion] Australia condemns LA Police for rubber bullets after quietly arming our ownEnglish3·7 hours agoAustralia’s hypocrisy is ubiquitous on much of this
Australia has the worst record of any nation for jailing and abusing climate protestors, as one example of perhaps not throwing stones
Australia leads the world in arresting climate and environment protesters
We regually kill people in custody, yet to see any black lies matter protests in Australia becase we give few fucks.
I find the entire thing bemusing as though we aren’t sone of the worst arseholes in the world, we send people who legally arrive in Australia to internment camps off shore, were they are treated so badly they suicide. We deport “criminals” overseas Now (like the US is doing) we sieze and copy peoples computers and phones at the border, we have invasive anti privacy laws and when some other country does it we get “oh my god” here.

It is getting old now. I use Kodi and YT Next mostly but supplemnt that with some local Australia FTA TV apps (ABC and SBS). I mean where else can we get such awesome TV as “Black As”
Grab 'em by the pussy anon and then go on to be President!
That.applies evrywhere, theres a.quasi famous quote from somone whose name escapees me, that opined they arent so muvh worried about the intracties of Einstein’s brian but the fact so many like it have had to work below minimum wage jobs picking starberries in fields just to survive and humanities future has been robbed becase of it.
Hanrahan@slrpnk.netto Linux@lemmy.ml•What is your most useful Linux app which others might not know about (please don't just give the name but a link and why it is good for you) ?English21·3 days agoSorry to thread jack. One little app I miss from Windows is a simple screengrab annotator? Wondering if people have anything to recommend.
Eg to circle some on screen text, add an arrow and maybe add some of my own text.
I cant get my Loigtech KB to screen grab, so I just use the Screengrab app in Mint, which is fine but zero annotation abilities.
I have tried Flameshot but it is a shitshow and doesn’t work properly and is unstable (for me) and doesn’t allow me to put it in the clipboard and paste in say Signal.

Hanrahan@slrpnk.netto Linux@programming.dev•The end of Windows 10 is approaching, so it's time to consider Linux and LibreOfficeEnglish2·3 days agoGrab a 1 TB nvme, take the Widows one out, install the new SSD boot the USB thumbdrive, install Bazzite (or Mint) and off you go, that’s all I did. I’m running LMDE but not a big gamer, so the little I do play all works on Mint Debian Edition.
If it all gives you the shits after a time, just put the old SSD back in and boot back into Windows.
Hanrahan@slrpnk.netto Linux@programming.dev•The end of Windows 10 is approaching, so it's time to consider Linux and LibreOfficeEnglish2·3 days agoTrue but like Reddit shitting the bed every 8 months leads to waves of folks on Lemny, or Twaxter doing the same thing leading to Mastodon waves. This wikl be another wave but how many ? Maybe a few 1000 only I guess ? I left for Mint about 3 years ago (dual boot defaulting to Mint) then to LMDE 12 months ago.

Hanrahan@slrpnk.netto Selfhosted@lemmy.world•Anyone else going basic with their NAS?English41·3 days agoI don’t really get the whole NAS thing i must admit. Most of what I read about what people are doing is enabling slacker family and friends ? (That’s not a critisism, just an observation)
I have a TV, a HDD connected on the router and Kodi on the Nvidia Shield Pro. Any music is stored on my phone, or streamed via Netradio
I very occasionally copy media across to my phone to watch and then… it sits there and I dont watch it.
My parter uses Kodi on the TV occasioanly.
I don’t stream anything aside from some YT occasionally (DIY etc)
I get people do endless shit with their NAS, or server but I’m am retired and don’t have the time
Books are managed via Calibre on a a Kobo.
Hanrahan@slrpnk.netto Australia@aussie.zone•As Australia campaigns for Cop31 hosting rights, it’s time to stop talking and start doingEnglish1·3 days agoWe shouldn’t but we probably will. Australian voters have near zero support for climate change action aside from pearl clutching.
Hanrahan@slrpnk.netto Boost For Lemmy@lemmy.world•[feature request] Support for Piefed instancesEnglish2·3 days agoLike Matodon Piefed also steps outside ActivityPub to do stuff its own way, which is not a good thing IMO as you end up with fragmentation.
None the less, I am trailing piefed but find the Interstellar app annoying… so.
Hanrahan@slrpnk.netto Boost For Lemmy@lemmy.world•[feature request] Support for Piefed instancesEnglish1·3 days agoI have been using Interstellar for that reason, it sucks compared to Boost on Lemmy but hey, it works on Piefed (and Lemmy) but yeah, it sucks compartively as an App.
