I learned how people get on the news and repeat stories to slowly infiltrate people’s conscience and the same people that said cigarettes were okay were on the news as experts for others over time. What’s funny is I learned this from Joe Rogan who became apart of this machine.

They seem to stand up just fine to progressives.

For uninformed people like myself:
Balkanization is the process of a country or region fragmenting into smaller, often hostile units, typically driven by ethnic, cultural, religious, or geopolitical differences. The term originates from the Balkan Peninsula, a region that has experienced significant fragmentation throughout history, and the term is now used more broadly to describe similar processes elsewhere.
I watched that episode for the first time just the other day. Definitely ruined because I expected the ending and I had the Futurama reference in mind.
I definitely think people should watch the Twilight Zone though. I watched the Outer Limits myself growing up but so many of these shows borrow from the Twilight Zone. It would also help some of my friends when we talk about Black Mirror and they’re being like: “it’s the first show that brought these types of ideas”. I’m like, sigh …
lobut@lemmy.cato PC Gaming@lemmy.ca•The official Xbox Ally handheld is so exciting.English2·3 days agoAll very good questions. If a lot of these are software updates … I was genuinely hoping they would go back and make it easier for those with the earlier handhelds. I bought my friend’s kid a ROG Ally (not an X) and it’d be nice if they got some of these benefits too.
I’m dubious until I see benchmarks from Steve, Linus, Dave2D? I think most of the videos that have been out have been what they’ve advertised/marketing rather than independent testing.

I’m kinda excited too? Kind of?
Like this isn’t for me. I’m more of a Steam Deck guy.
If this lives up to the MS Marketing BS, this would be a handheld that I’d buy for a friend or I’d recommend a friend to buy.
lobut@lemmy.cato PC Gaming@lemmy.ca•The official Xbox Ally handheld is so exciting.English3·3 days agoI think they’re supporting “suspend” and other OS/software improvements so it feels more like an xbox handheld and has optimizations for battery and performance. They’re also introducing updating the microsoft store to have a “steam deck” compatible – like system with caveats and stuff.
If you own an Xbox series X or whatever they have now, you can stream seamlessly and stuff.
lobut@lemmy.cato Today I Learned@lemmy.world•TIL Baijiu is the most consumed liquor in the world.English9·3 days agoIt’s Chinese white alcohol with a fairly high alcohol content. The word itself is literally just the pinyin (aka the way to write Chinese words using an English keyboard) written out.
So “Bai” is white and “jiu” is alcohol.
lol, so I don’t think there’s any racist connotation to it, although it can seem that way.
lol yes I understand I know I sound silly. My home/end aren’t typical on my keyboard. It’s like function and stuff, which breaks my flow for something I do so often.
lobut@lemmy.cato Games@lemmy.world•Asus and Lenovo’s handhelds get price hike as Valve pauses some Steam Deck salesEnglish8·3 days agoI really want to root for Nintendo but they make it hard.
Opening up my steam library from a console was such a big WTF moment and then being able to suspend games was so mind-blowing.
It’s still not that beefy for triple-A but I’m considering getting GeForce Now running on it.
I use VS Code mainly and I always want to go to the end of a line and beginning. On Mac it’s like CTRL+E and CTRL+A respectively. On Windows, I was like, I guess I could do Windows Key and arrows but it felt off. Installing Vim bindings on VS Code just fixed this all for me. I love it.
[edit] for non-VIM users, you can skip words and go-to braces (and delete what’s in them) and highlight within quotes very easily … for function search, the built-in VS Code is really good too. I also have Harpoon installed to hop between files. If it doesn’t appeal to you, then that’s cool too! Whatever keeps you in there. [/edit]
I’ve tried setting up my own vim stuff and I always bail out because I can’t figure something out. I feel like I need to really sit with it and I’d have the perfect set up for me.
Lastly, I’ve installed vim for zsh and it’s the best. I can hop all around my terminal and highlight and remove things. It’s so beautiful.

Can’t remember how we resolved it, but it did blow my mind.

These theatres are going too far with their immersion.
I’m always concerned that my weight will break it. I don’t weigh that much but it’s an irrational fear I have.
I put my clothes and stuff on it when I shower though.
