

As a German who lives not so far from Berlin, I can tell you that things are really bad there and the initiative is more a reaction to the situation than part of a movement. Since the last state election, Berlin has pretty much the most car-friendly government in the republic, even by German standards - every possible cent that could even be considered for a cycle path is being stopped there. The situation is nothing short of catastrophic.
Nonetheless, the success of the initiative is of course to be sincerely wished.
I don’t feel like looking up the issue on GitHub, but Gargon once explained that he doesn’t want to change this mechanism, as otherwise instances would falsify non-existent likes and thus manipulate the system.
The actual likes are therefore only visible on the instance from which the post originated, as every like is transferred to this instance.
