I saw that Brother completely refuted these claims, but obviously there is always a chance that they will go to the dark side.

Strangely, this has never been the case for me (printers, not audio which obviously has sucked in the past). Also if you get a printer that is networked, it generally just works these days, better than my Windows experience.
Xennial here, get a Brother laser printer if you can. The “starter toner” lasted me for like 4 years so far and is only now getting low. I can’t imagine going back to an inkjet that would always dry up since I used infrequently, but I still needed it.
My Brother color printer was like $350 and they are probably the only OEM I’d even recommend.
There are a few specific missions that are indeed stacked against you, but they are important story missions that are like boss fights. You don’t have to play them a specific way to beat them at all, people just get too caught up in playing these games in cookie cutter ways sometimes and now you get site created by AI slop that just regurgitate it.

Disgaea and like are intentionally non-serious and funny. If the humor doesn’t do it for you in the slightest then it’s not for you sadly. I do have to say that once you get hooked on the series, all the other games feel like their mechanics are overly simplistic though.
And no, Tactics Ogre is all serious and very very good.
My favorites are probably the Disgaea series and related games (Makai Kingdom, Phantom Brave) and Tactics Ogre. I also like Tactics Ogres more popular little brother, Final Fantasy Tactics.
I was lured to use it during those days as well because of all the cool and wildly different screenshots I had seen. I did manage to get it working and looking super cool, but it was fragile and complex. It was so easy to fully break it in my experience. I tried to use it again about 8-10 years ago and while it was easier than the 90s, it was more trouble than I was willing to put up with for a DE these days. Especially since Gnome (with extension) and KDE could trivially look nice.
Honestly, even just preventing MCR is a win in my book. Add on preventing Twilight and we’re doing great, THEN preventing 50 Shades of Grey? They need to get to work on that time machine right away!

I have for decades now used what I perceive as quality/value to decide whether I should buy a game or whether it may be worth if later if it goes on a steep sale. For example, some AAA game that get polarizing reviews or is known to be very short might be an instance where I’d be not be inclined to pay full price because to me, it wasn’t worth the price. Raising the price of a game to $80 means that I personally will want more value out of it. I just bought a game on Steam yesterday for $20 on sale, which was to me worthwhile. If it had been $80, there is no way I would have bought it.

Many of their users don’t want anything to do that with that stuff, which is what Google holds over the heads of all the OEMs.
zod000@lemmy.mlto Privacy@lemmy.dbzer0.com•Google has made it much harder for GrapheneOS & CalyxOS to update to Android 161·6 days agoIt sucks that I just bought a new phone a month ago so that I could move back to GrapheneOS. That being said, I’ll personally be fine with no updates as long as they don’t push out some update that cripples the OS. I use my phone like a nearly dumb phone, but that won’t cut it for 99.9% of people…

zod000@lemmy.mlto Games@lemmy.world•As The Outer Worlds 2 hits $80, director says "we don't set the prices for our games" and wishes "everybody could play" Obsidian's new RPGEnglish191·7 days agoThey probably meant that it felt like a game that was stripped down and shallow compared to similar AAA “full price” games and I completely agree. After playing the first one, I wouldn’t only consider buying this new game if it was at least 50% off.

zod000@lemmy.mlto Greentext@sh.itjust.works•game has multiple factions fighting each other2·7 days agoWow, the evil forces of “coke” have made significant territory gains since the last time I saw one of these maps. I have never heard a single person call a random non-coke soda a “coke”. I recently moved to a “pop” area, but I haven’t received any push back from saying soda at least. I did hear some old people here specifically call it “soda pop” though.

It isn’t as seamless as Steam, but using Lutris or Heroic are the way to go if the games doesn’t have a native Linux version available on gog
