I’m noticing a trend whenever something evil happens that was caused by Christian theocrats, Americans feel the need to compare them to fascist “Islamist” groups.
what’s the point when you’d have much more impact focusing on your homegrown fascists? I’m not saying people can’t criticize Hamas, but it amounts to nothing more than posturing because they’re not in charge of your society.
maybe the joke would work better if you replaced Hamas with IOF soldiers because American cops actually do have institutional collaborations with them at all levels.
While yes there is certainly an aspect of islamophobia there, it also isn’t necessarily drawing attention away from the fascists, and moreso pointing out how fascist they are to culturally commonly understood ‘bad people’.
And for the record I haven’t seen any comparisons to Hamas, if anything more references to the IDF and the cops/Ice putting the tactics and weapons developed by the IDF for Gaza into practice on the American people.
I think it’s an apt comparison, as they’re both religious right wingers who commit acts of terror. People struggle to understand these things within their society, so using an example from the outside helps put things in perspective.
